Support of School Children

Anna Amses

In 2012 steps for children supports for the first time 5 school children in Gobabis, who had visited the preschool of Light for the Children in the previous years. Thanks to the help of many sponsors we pay the school fees for these children and provide them with the necessary books, exercise books, writing equipment and a warm meal each day in our soup kitchen.

Preschool

Schüler

In the pre-school (founded by Light for the Children) there are approximately 300 children being taught. Since the community is not staying stable – again and again families are moving back and forth – up to 350 children are coming to school. The children in the pre-school are spread out into 6 classes with up to 50 pupils. They are aged between 4 and 8 years.

In the soup kitchen (founded by Light for the Children) we are providing a warm meal to 300 to 350 children each day.
Most of the time the budget allows only milipap (thick maize porridge) and soup – once a month there’s meat.

steps home familie

Independent of the care of children in the project we have created “steps homes” for the care of children who don’t have parents anymore: steps is supporting women in the slums who are willing to foster and take care of orphans.

Guest House

Gästehaus Gobabis

steps for children has opened a guest house in Gobabis as well and we are looking forward for your visit! There are four double rooms – three with separate bathrooms, one with a shared bathroom. Each room is furnished with a table, teakettle and cups, and there’s a fridge in the hallway.
