New buildings Gobabis
We’ve bought two new properties directly next to the property of our cooperative partner Light for the Children in Gobabis. A carpenter’s workshop, a computer school/ internet café and the apartment for the leader of the workshops in a solid house are supposed to be built there. We have been able to put up a fence and the roof already.
Even though the city council has confirmed to us verbally, we unfortunately cannot build the walls of the carpenter’s shop and the computer school with sand-filled plastic bottles as we had planned. This would have saved us one third of the material cost and is very ecologically friendly since the bottles would not rot in the garbage. For this we would have suddenly needed a certificate that does not exist. This is why we are building with bricks now that we are making by hand with our own people.
Next door there’s the plan to make a workshop for crafts to produce articles for tourists and for the German market in a used fibre glass house.
Altogether at least six new jobs are supposed to be created. Through that, employment is being reduced here, and we are directly and indirectly supporting up to 50 persons since each worker is taking care of approximately 10 more family members.
These income generating steps are there mainly to ensure the care and schooling of the more than 300 children on a long-term basis, and to make pre-school and soup kitchen independent of donations. To finish these buildings we urgently still need help. Please Help
