Organisational Structure

The decision by the initiator of steps for children, Dr. Michael Hoppe, to start his first project in Okakarara was mainly influenced by the traditional leader (chief) of the region, Chief Kambazebi. He explicitly wanted the project, the community signalled great interest and Pastor Assaph offered his services as a potential leader for the project.

Einweihung

Official inauguration in 2008 under the patronage of the Deputy Prime Minister

of Namibia. In the photo: then Deputy Ambassador of the German Federal

Republic, Regional Governor of Otjozondjupa Region and board

members of the steps for children Trust.

In addition Dr. Michael Hoppe found a team of volunteers in Okakarara at the start of the project who showed a great amount of initiative - not to be found everywhere in Africa – and pro-actively helped to develop the project. This way only was it possible to launch the first 2 steps after 10 months of the first contact with Okakarara.

The community of Okakarara always showed great interest in the project and the need for it and very actively supports us in all organisational respects. The mayor of Okakarara once called steps for children the “sun of Okakarara”.

Legal representative and owner of all movable and immovable property of the project is the steps for children Trust/NGO (Non Governmental Organisation) represented by the Board of Trustees.

The general manager oversees the project and the Local Management is responsible for the day to day running of the project.
