for St. Nicholas I look back on 2020. In our projects in Namibia everything was different than usual because of Covid 19: considerable additional costs due to almost twice as many meals and hygiene measures with lower income. But in Germany a lot of support measures have reached us and

The problems that arose from the lockdown in Namibia are now more clearly visible. Without you, the problems in our projects would be considerably greater, without you we would not have been able to continue paying the employees in Namibia, for example. I am particularly pleased that in this letter I can introduce you to some great employees who impress me with their commitment to steps.

3 big problems
|
Despite the decreasing number of infections, the situation in Namibia has by no means relaxed. We have to watch how many people still suffer from hunger and other problems - and help where we can. Reportedly they are in lockdown domestic violence and pregnancies among young school girls has increased rapidly in the last few months, unfortunately also among the protégés from our projects. This makes the work of steps all the more important, where the children and young people can stay in the protected space of our schools and have confidants and contacts in our projects on site.

STEPS IN ZIMBABWE

We are increasing our commitment in Zimbabwe

The steps for children foundation has been working in Zimbabwe since 2017 in cooperation with the Help with Plan and Plan International foundation. In the past three years we have supported social and income generating measures. The situation is now extremely difficult in Zimbabwe, because not

only Corona hit the country corruption and persistent hyperinflation in particular are so severe that many parts of the population flee to the countryside and try to get their meals there. In Zimbabwe, two out of three people make a living from agriculture. Our income-generating measures such as fish ponds, chicken breeding, chicken hatcheries and beekeeping have therefore proven to be extremely important helpers in times of need because, among other things, they serve to feed the people in the countryside.
|
Due to the great need, we are investing in new income-generating measures with the construction of more 2 fish ponds, a new one to be created Banana plantation, Creation of 35 hen houses with laying hens and an Chicken breeding with solar hatchery.

The general meeting of the steps for children development association was also a complete success this year - that comes from the many Feedback emails that reached us afterwards. With over 50 participants, made up of supporters and friends as well as the steps team, our steps projects were summed up over the years 2019 and 2020. Following this has Carina Marxsen, former volunteer from Okakarara, who is still closely connected to the project, gave a talk about her almost whole year in the project. With many valuable impressions, both lectures brought us closer to the distant land of Namibia again this year and rekindled our longing for it.
|
A big thank you to youthat we were able to hold such an informative session and thus also reach people who otherwise would not have been able to attend due to the distance.
