Would you like to participate in our projects in Okakarara, Gobabis or Rehoboth on site and, together with our helpers, give children and young people access to education? Or help with meals, initiate games and sports? You don't like to just look on from the outside, but want to actively support the work with your hands and, if necessary, special knowledge?
Then there are different options:
One year with the weltwärts program in Africa
We are a partner organization of Volunta gGmbH, a society of the German Red Cross in Hesse. Volunta is a recognized end-end organization of the weltwärts program of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), which is responsible for the development policy voluntary service. By applying for the weltwärts program at Volunta, volunteers can participate in our projects in Okakarara, Gobabis or Rehoboth for one year.

voluntary service
It is advantageous if volunteers have special knowledge and experience for their work and show a high degree of initiative.
Skills in the following areas are helpful for working on site:
- Educational work in general
- Youth sports work
- Tutoring (English, mathematics)
- Mediation of IT knowledge
- vegetable growing
- Craftsmanship for help in the carpentry
- Sewing work for help in the sewing workshop
- Knowledge of nutrition and cooking
- Building Services / Janitorial
- Marketing of our guest houses
If you are interested, please send us an email to mitarbeit@stepsforchildren.de with letter of motivation and curriculum vitae (in German and English) as well as job references stating the desired period of employment. The application documents should be submitted to us at least 5 - 6 months before the start of volunteering.
The at least 3 months of use is coordinated with the project locations via the office of the steps for children foundation. The volunteers must bear the travel and accommodation costs themselves. Depending on the accommodation and location (in steps' own guesthouses or privately) the cost is €10 per night.
Please keep in mind that an application for a visa must be submitted to the Namibian Embassy in Berlin at least early (at least 6 months before volunteering begins).

Senior expert service
The Senior Expert Service (SES) is the German Business Foundation for International Cooperation GmbH and a non-profit company. As such, it brings retired volunteer experts together with people at home and abroad who are willing to learn in order to pass on their knowledge. The education of the children in the steps for children projects is also important to them. That is why the educators in our institutions are regularly supported by experts sent from the Senior Expert Service (SES) and benefit significantly from the know-how provided.

social vacations
On your social leave you can up to one week at the locations okakarara or Gobabis Stay overnight in the guest house and actively support the children and young people from the informal settlements with your own ideas and small learning or creative projects. Experience the real practice of a social institution and understand daily challenges that are guaranteed to be different from your own at home. You can also book a guided tour of the place so that you don't miss the most interesting corners and the regional cuisine during your stay.
