Locations in Zimbabwe

Locations in Zimbabwe

We have been looking after our locations in Zimbabwe together with the Hilfe mit Plan foundation since 2017. Our goal here is to enable children to grow up appropriately and to provide help for self-help with income-generating measures.

August 1, 2017 was the start of cooperation and work at the locations in Zimbabwe: Over a project period of 1.500 years, more than 3 small children will benefit from our joint commitment with the “Help with Plan” foundation of the children’s charity Plan International in this region, indirectly even more than 12.500 children.

Michael Hoppe's expertise, in particular in the income-generating measures, was already requested by the Aid with Plan foundation in 2016. After visiting Zimbabwe, he decided to take the next step to a new African country.

Kindergartens and schools, especially in rural areas, are far away from where children live, poorly equipped and teachers are poorly trained. Due to the continuing drought in Zimbabwe, the situation has worsened, since getting food is more important to parents than educating and supporting their children. These regions are characterized by underdevelopment and malnutrition as well as high unemployment.

Our common goal: One hot meal, Safe, child-friendly play and learning as well as preparation for a self-determined life – we want to make this possible for children in Zimbabwe too!

Are planned

As with most other steps projects, we have one dedicated partner (on site) at our side.

The Foundation Aid with Plan of the children's aid organization Plan International now supports us in our important step into a second project country.
Plan International also focuses on helping people to help themselves. For us, however, the aid organization's over 80 years of experience in more than 70 countries around the world are particularly valuable. We don't have to start from scratch, for example when it comes to contacts with state institutions and communities. Here we are relieved enormously both by detailed knowledge of local structures and by local staff in the Plan International project team and can face the special challenges together and accompany them.

Project cooperation: Stiftung Hilfe mit Plan and Plan International

Project duration: August 2017 - July 2020

Children: 165; 3 - 6 years old
Social measures: Few educational institutions for early childhood support exist in Zimbabwe. We provide access to child-friendly educational institutions by setting up two Early Childhood Care and Development Centers (ECCD). These each consist of a school building, separate toilets for girls and boys, wells for clean drinking water and a small garden for self-sufficiency. Here the children learn playfully in a safe environment and with appropriate equipment such as child-friendly furniture, toys and learning materials.

Measure generating income: Mothers and fathers (a total of 147 adults) take part in our income-generating measures in this region. This feeds their family members and the teachers also receive a small income.
In addition, parents are trained as educators in eleven other ECCD centers. Approximately 1.500 children benefit from this measure.
