We are building dormitories in Zimbabwe and thus safe places to sleep for girls
Safe place to sleep for girls: We want girls to have a safe place to sleep and are therefore building together with Plan International and the Hilfe mit Plan in foundation Zimbabwe girls dormitories. Here we describe how these are equipped and what we achieve with them. Would you also like to get involved and help us to provide safe sleeping places for girls in Zimbabwe? Then make a donation.
Safe place to sleep for girls - that's why it's important:
Many girls have to travel very long distances to get to school - they have to walk to distant villages and then sleep, in order not to walk straight back home, near the school - somewhere. Many of the girls then sleep unprotected in the open air or in shelters, some in simple but unguarded accommodation - without anyone to make sure nothing happens to them.
That's called "bush boarding"
To counter the practice of bush boarding, we are building girls' dormitories at secondary schools. A dormitory can accommodate 45 girls. Each building has seven bedrooms with at least six beds, which are furnished with mattresses, pillows and bed linen.
In the girls' dormitories not only beds are provided, but also tables, chairs and electric lights for housework and reading.
In addition, each dormitory will have a reading room with tables, chairs and electric light. The kitchens in the halls of residence will be set up outside the main building.
