Many children do not know their own country
Lots of kids in Namibiawho grow up on the fringes of society in informal settlements hardly have the opportunity to explore their own country due to their living conditions. Some children have never been to the capital, Windhoek, while others have not even been to the next larger town.
Only our numerous guardian angels from Germany and around the world make this possible for our steps guardian angel children by enabling long-term close-knit care on site, tutoring and homework help, healthy nutrition, clothing, school fees and school uniforms and providing financial support. In this way, guardian angels make a very large and fundamental contribution to the future of our more than 150 children and young people in Namibia.
Learning outside of the classroom
With the guardian angel program, steps for children also enables learning outside of the classroom - for example through excursions. In this way, the students discover their own country or gain age-appropriate insights into the professional world of firefighters or air traffic controllers.
The guardian angel children out Okahandja have made a wonderful adventure trip to Windhoek this year, accompanied and guided by the primary school teacher Bettina Gaebuse. She prepared the topics in the afternoon lessons with the steps guardian angel children, most of whom will finish second grade this year, organized child-friendly tours on site and asked a few questions after the excursion to ensure the experience. For example, there were tasks on the areas of work, healthy food and the places in Windhoek that the group visited together.
The kids loved it and enjoyed exploring the airport, the University of Science and Technology (NUST), the State House and Parliament Gardens, and the Medical School (Unam) with their friends. Of course, healthy snack breaks with apples and oranges could not be missing, there was also a romp on the playground and a visit to the zoo was also on the agenda.
It is already clear to the teacher Bettina Gaebuse that the children have learned a lot in this short time and have been able to establish a connection between school and reality.
"Furthermore, the tour was really a great opportunity for the Guardian Angels. In addition, it will really be of great benefit if the Guardian Angels will be given more opportunities like this tour, whereby they will be exposed to a lot of activities which will benefit them academically, socially, emotionally, pschologically."

The trip for the guardian angel children in Okahandja this year has already been financed. We thank you very much for that. In order to give other children from the informal settlements an educational opportunity, guardian angel children can be supported here on a permanent basis.
Our constantly growing number of guardian angel children are also supported with a small one-off Christmas donation.
"In conclusion, we are grateful for the great support that our learnres are getting from Steps for Children. We are really humbled by their kind and caring hearts, that they have for children.”
