How does social leave work in Namibia?

Here you can find out how you can best take a vacation with steps for children in Namibia and have a better conscience - it's called social vacation and you have the opportunity to work a little in one of our projects for a week.

First of all, the destination must be clear. When it comes to Africa and – particularly beautiful – Namibia falls, you can combine this trip with an active visit to steps for children in the projects. We have two locations where it is advisable to work for a minimum of two days and a maximum of up to a whole week. Then you are an active vacationer.

A tour of the site and getting to know our concept and how we work on site is of course planned at the beginning - you get to know the kindergarten groups, the pre-school groups and the soup kitchen. The soup kitchen will also provide you with a warm meal - just like the children. However, you are free to cook something for yourself at lunchtime and take a short break in your accommodation.

In the afternoon you will get to know the children in the afternoon care and you can certainly help a little with their English or math homework - depending on what is planned.

Okakarara - you can experience it

During the project tour in okakarara you will then also get to know the project's own sewing room and the guest house - where you will stay overnight during your vacation. The income that is generated here flows without deductions into the financing of the social steps - i.e. into the soup kitchens, the kindergarten and the preschool.

You will also see the small town about 8 km away ongombombade get to know each other - here steps for children has a vegetable garden where all sorts of things are planted. On the one hand, the vegetables are used for the soup kitchen in the project, on the other hand, they are sold to the surrounding soup kitchens and at street markets.

At this small location, which actually belongs to Okakarara, there is also a kindergarten and a steps preschool, where you can also take a look.

Gobabis - what you get to know here

Also in Gobabis there is a wonderful opportunity to take a social leave. Here it is a good idea to come along to the care of the guardian angel children, especially in the afternoon, and to help with the homework together with the educators or to give tutoring in mathematics and English.

In the morning you will get to know our cooperation partner Light for the Children - with kindergarten and preschool as well as the soup kitchen, which serves hundreds of meals at lunchtime - not only to children from the facilities, but also to children from the surrounding community.

Of course, you will also get to know the carpentry shop and the guest house – where you will stay overnight.

You will look for your tasks together with the project managers – It is best to think about how you could best support the work at the locations beforehand. For example, do you have experience with groups of children and young people? Can you help with the English and math homework in the afternoon class? Are manual repairs your thing?

We look forward to you spending your days with us in the project and taking a look at who we reach with the donations and what we achieve.
