Employees are infected
While founder Michael Hoppe was still on a project trip to Namibia, the third and Most violent wave of infections to date has broken out. There are dramatic situations in some cities and regions, so entry and exit restrictions apply to the area that includes the cities of Windhoek, Okahandja and Rehoboth. In the state hospitals there are borderline conditions, there is a lack of ventilators and oxygen. Many of my local friends are infected and some of them did not survive the virus. Employees and children in our projects were also infected. Our national coordinator Ulrike Mai has Desperately trying to get a ventilator and oxygen for a seriously ill project manager and her husband: the oxygen is simply not available.
Not enough vaccinations
Despite the large number of vaccinations available, very few vaccinations have been recorded: 0,78% were vaccinated twice and 4,1% received the first vaccination. So far, larger parts of the population could hardly be convinced of a protective vaccination, but in the last 3 days with in some cases over 2.000 new infections per day, the situation has changed a little.
"Corona has got a face, almost everyone now knows the infected and the dead," says Ulrike Mai, national coordinator.
The kindergartens and preschools as well as all schools have to close and send the children on early winter holidays. It is not only adults who become infected and sometimes have a severe course - children are also affected by the infection.
We try ours in all projects Soup kitchens open to hold, but the situation is getting more and more difficult. Many staff absences hardly enable continuous operation. Nevertheless, our project managers try at least to keep the soup kitchen running so that no child has to go hungry at home. In Okahandja, the soup kitchen will remain open and will not distribute meals 3 days a week, but 5 days a week.
With your help we can at least ensure the daily meals for the children and their relatives.
