An update on the steps vegetable garden <\/b><\/h2>\n

The winter vegetables are coming to an end. Tomatoes, peppers, watermelons and honeydews as well as pumpkins have been sown or are currently being transplanted. The employees who tend and cultivate the vegetable garden in Ongombombonde<\/b> <\/a>maintain and cultivate it, are highly motivated and are facing the biggest challenge at present: large swarms of Quelea red-billed finches, which fly over the fields in huge flocks and eat a great deal of the cultivated vegetables, especially the tender seedlings. In addition, mongooses and ground squirrels join them. They are no longer satisfied with the yields from the rainy season and also eat the vegetables.<\/p>\n

Using tricks to prevent the worst<\/b><\/h5>\n

Bird netting and closed shade nets are now being used with combined efforts and a few tricks to prevent the worst, to protect the harvest and keep the animals away from the fields.<\/p>\n

In order to deliver the harvested vegetables to nearby school canteens and more distant villages and sell them there<\/a><\/strong>, donations can be made here for a used pick-up truck, which is also to be used as a sales stand for small street markets.<\/p>\n
