Discover the world through reading<\/h2>\n

How you can help our steps children and young people discover the world through reading, and why we would also like to make this possible in other locations, read here.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The children in our projects do not know what is normal for us: that children are read to from an early age or can start browsing picture books early on, and that, once they can read themselves, a wide range of books is available to them.<\/p>\n

No own books<\/h2>\n

The families in the informal settlements cannot afford their own books, and the mothers or guardians often cannot read themselves either. In the schools, too, girls and boys usually share the books with their classmates, and no one is allowed to take books home. In many communities in Namibia, there is a lack of library infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Inspiring a love of reading<\/h2>\n

We would like to inspire the children in our steps<\/a>\u2013projects<\/a> to read, and several years ago we already acquired mobile libraries in Okakarara and Gobabis. It significantly increases the children's motivation to learn and their performance.<\/p>\n

Where are the books needed?<\/h2>\n

Now girls and boys in Rehoboth<\/a><\/strong> and Okahandja<\/a> <\/strong>should also be given the opportunity to browse, discover and learn with the mobile libraries. In addition to 600 books, it includes a 40-inch LED smart TV, including a DVD player and 40 DVDs. The multimedia library is mobile, takes up little space and is ready for immediate use.<\/p>\n

For the steps locations Rehoboth and Okahandja, we would like to acquire 3 fully equipped mobile libraries. For the existing mobile libraries in Okakarara<\/strong><\/a> and Gobabis<\/a><\/strong> we need new books, as many have been damaged or are outdated.<\/p>\n
