Dear steps friends,
We are not facing an easy task in Namibia.
Now the lockdown is there - and many people have no income more. In these times we all have to stick together and those who are in poorest people deny this crisis, to accommodate. How do we do that
Our measures and how to help us now we describe in the next sections.

cordially

On-site situation: Take 2 minutes for Peik Bruns

Namibia has also been in force since March 27 a travel ban within the country, meetings and street markets are prohibited, and informal places such as pubs or tobacco shops are closed. People are asked to stay at home and are only allowed to leave their home, as in Germany, for shopping or a doctor.

What effects does this have on our projects?

There is no income from the projects

Almost all steps for children's income-generating measures are closed. This means at long-term outage a loss of almost half the pure project costs.

The steps for children foundation has decided that all employees of steps for children, regardless of whether they can work or not, will continue to receive their salary. They are often the only ones in their family who have an income and thus maintain up to a further ten people. We will continue this unabated wage payment even if there are fewer donations for our projects in Germany.

The hunger remains

We decided continue to serve meals as required by law, when needed. If one or more children come to us in the kitchen, they are provided with healthy meals.

“Before the lockdown, our city was a bit insecure and we had to find various ministries with which we could get in touch. It is about continuously feeding the children, acting safely and within the government guidelines. A letter to the government has so far remained unanswered. "
