Sold out after only 3 hours!
During Michael Hoppes' visit to Okakarara, he of course went to the 8 hectares of land outside the town, on which our vegetable project is growing steadily. Gal Sirton, our consultant, has already begun further professionalisation of cultivation, thanks to the support of our donors and sponsors such as Transa Backpacking AG, RAVEN Logistic GmbH and the Haspa Hamburg Foundation.
It will take a while until the essential part of the cultivation is covered with shade nets, but green shoots of different fruit and vegetables are already sprouting: carrots, tomatoes, corn, papaya, beetroot and the first banana, lemon and herbs.
It is a colourful garden, which generates revenue growth for the social initiatives. Initial sales successes already existed: Gal and staff drove to Otjiwarongo in the slum with the bag full of vegetables and sold them from the car. After only 3 hours everything had been sold out and 9,500 N $ had been taken in!
