Started barefoot, today one of Namibia's fastest

Virinaos path: How the right equipment turned a gifted sprinter into a national athlete.

Success needs not only talent, but also the chance to show it. Virinao used to train barefoot in the sand – but at the Nationals in Namibia, sprint shoes and your own starting blocks are mandatory. For the event ceremonies, athletes are required to wear a uniform representing their region – it is provided by the regions. However, they must purchase their competition clothing such as tracksuits or running shoes themselves. Thanks to the support of our community, we were able to provide Virinao with professional equipment.

The result: a sensational 2nd place at the national U15 championships. Virinao shows us that no goal is too far away when you are given the right tools. His dream? One day to be faster than Usain Bolt.

Become part of his journey and support young talents in growing beyond themselves.

From desert sand to the tartan track

In this video, Virinao рассказывает about his impressive development. Find out how he made the leap to the Nationals, what his goals for the future are and how sport strengthens him in his overall personal development.

Guardian angel programme

Good, sustainable education costs money. With the help of our Guardian Angels, we support children and young people in Namibia during their school career and beyond. Guardian Angels make their contribution in the form of a monthly or annual donation based on the respective needs of the pupils or students. This programme is very successful: the first Schutzengel children have already completed their bachelor's degree - without steps for children, this would never have been possible.

Speed check: No chance against Virinao

When professional talent meets amateur ambition

We know from the results lists that Virinao is fast – this somewhat unequal duel shows just how fast he really is. In a spontaneous race, Virinao takes on videographer Cem. A tongue-in-cheek clip that nonetheless impressively demonstrates the power and speed Virinao now brings to the track. (Spoiler: Cem gave it his all, but stood no chance against our runner-up.)

Regionals in Grootfontein

Qualification for the Nationals!
In April, Virinao won two medals in the U15 category at the Regionals in the Otjozondjupa region, Namibia. In the 200m discipline, he came 1st with a time of 24.32 seconds, and in the long jump he came 2nd with 5.63 metres. The competition took place in Grootfontein, Namibia, where several schools competed against each other.

Nationals in Windhoek

Best times for Virinao!
In May, Virinao was able to compete at the Nationals in Windhoek, where he represents the Otjozondjupa region. He performed excellently and came 2nd in the 200m discipline!

Competitions 2026

Current season
The success from 2025 is being continued this year: at the Regionals he won two silver medals and one gold medal, and at the Nationals he placed 2nd in the 200m and 3rd in the 400m. As he is still too young at 16, he unfortunately could not be selected to represent the country.
