Birgit Eckert, educator of the little „tigers“ at Kita Himmelblau, Hamburg-Volksdorf, supported our project in Okakarara in March/April as a volunteer. Not only in the kindergarten and in pre-school, together with Sabine Bohlen-Roß from Hamburg, she was a valuable help.
„It was an overwhelming feeling for me to immerse myself in real Namibia for once. Until now I had only known it from holidays… My parents“ representatives gave me a guardian angel. He was supposed to watch over me there. And at the end of my stay I gave him to a girl (that was the mothers’ request) so that he would watch over her then… It will certainly not have been my last time in Okakarara, that much is certain.”
** Shortly before setting off for the big performance **
„It was the last day before the holidays, but also my last day with the children in the steps project. On this day, Independence Day was celebrated in Oka. The steps pupils had been invited by the mayor to perform some songs. Between the speeches by important personalities, the children had two performances. As a reward, the children and adults received a packed lunch and a drink. I recorded a video of it on my mobile phone. I do not want to miss the time in Okakarara at all!!!“
Many thanks, Birgit, for your commitment! Now your commitment in Germany is enriched by your valuable project experience. And the „tigers“ group in your Kita had many, many questions about the children in Okakarara.
