On August 23, an unusual marathon took place from 10 a.m. at the Hamburg high-rise air-raid shelter on Müggenkampstraße in Eimsbüttel. The athletes had to complete 98 laps over six floors – a total of 7,449 stair steps and 1,390 metres of elevation gain. The entry fee was donated to the steps for children foundation. 

The idea for this unusual event came from Hamburg sports physician Dr. Christian Hottas. The sporting event was sponsored by the owner of the high-rise bunker, wph Wohnbau und Projektentwicklung Hamburg GmbH. As early as the beginning of July, wph raised a four-figure sum for steps at the inauguration ceremony for its new offices on Rothenbaumchaussee through its appeal for donations. 

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks for the trust and support for our work in Namibia and wish all athletes great stamina and strong legs!

The idea for the failed event comes from the Hamburg sports physician, Dr. Christian Hottas, sponsor of sporting events is the bunker-owner wph housing and project development Hamburg GmbH.
