Since 2015, the student company Küchenzauber – BBS II Delmenhorst has been actively supporting us through various fundraising campaigns, e.g. by selling African dishes or through student actions (information and donation collection) in Delmenhorst city centre. The two teachers, Hilke Friedrich and Ulrike Richter, were recently travelling in Namibia and also visited our steps project in Okakarara. Here they report on their experiences and impressions:
Namibia – a country that touches the soul
Our journey to Namibia has deeply moved us and left lasting impressions. The magnificent landscape with its endless savannahs, bushland and desert, this vastness, the peace, the warmth of the people and the variety of (wild) animals touch the heart and leave a deep impression. On such a round trip you simply experience so incredibly much! It is impossible to describe it all. It is simply a different world, one has to experience oneself!
We first came into contact with German Namibians by chance at Frankfurt Airport, and their open manner enabled us, among other things, to gain interesting insights into the country's education system.
During our holiday we repeatedly met very helpful and cheerful people. The vast majority of the population in Namibia has significantly fewer material resources available than people in Germany. All the more impressive to us that a great sense of satisfaction with life is nevertheless tangible.
We were filled with goosebumps when the children from steps for children greeted us with a welcome song. The joy and gratitude of the children were palpable.

We are very impressed by how much has been achieved in those admittedly short 10 years and how much good is done there every day. The tour of the project with Ms Schneider-Waterberg was very interesting and inspiring.
We took away various ideas/suggestions on how to provide support beyond fundraising campaigns. A special thank you once again to Dr Hans Christian and Ms Sabine Schröder for the perfect support in planning the trip.
