A few months or a year as a volunteer in Gobabis or Okakarara or as an intern in Hamburg at steps for children. And then? When and where do you see the people again, with whom you spent so much time, discovered so many new things?
steps answers the question for you: in October in Hamburg. steps invited former volunteers who had „just“ returned from Namibia or who have been back here for a year already or who have just completed an internship at steps for children in Hamburg.
On 26 and 27 October 2016, Namibia volunteers and Hamburg interns were guests on the Elbe. After the warm welcome by Michael Hoppe and Simone Damak at the steps headquarters, there was one thing above all at vetkoekies and coffee: talking about the time in Namibia and at steps. The focus was on exchanging experiences, working with steps, criticism and feedback, and collecting ideas for steps.
However, this workshop was only the start of the weekend in the October-cold north. Out of the steps office and onto the Elbe, walk around Altona, go out for a cosy meal and round off Sunday morning with a brunch marathon. What was exciting about this weekend was that some had never met before, yet still had so much in common. Of course, many conversations were about Namibia, but also about what is occupying us now. What remains for everyone is this special connection, forged in the distance and tied in knots at home.
It may sound simplistic, but it’s true:
Seeing each other again is a joy.

A few months or a year as a volunteer / r in Gobabis or Okakarara or an internship in Hamburg at steps for children. And then? When and where you see the man again, with whom you spent so much time, has discovered so many new things?
The question answered steps for you: in October in Hamburg. steps has invited former volunteers who came back „fresh“ from Namibia or already here a year or just an internship at steps for children have graduated in Hamburg.
On 26 and 27 October 2016 Namibia volunteers and Hamburg-trainees were then guests on the Elbe. After the warm welcome by Michael Hoppe and Simone Damak in the steps headquarters was at vetkoekies and coffee, especially one made: talking about the time in Namibia and in steps. The exchange about their own experiences, the cooperation with steps, criticism and feedback, and brainstorming for steps on the program.
However, this workshop was just the prelude to the weekend in october cold north. Walk Out of the steps-office and from the River Elbe, Altona, go eat comfortably and Sunday morning nor ending brunch Marathon. The exciting thing about this weekend was that you had some never seen, but so much in common. Of course, many conversations were to Namibia, but also to that which now occupies us. It remains for this particular connection, knotted in the distance and knotted in the home.
It floored sounds, but it’s true nevertheless:
Good bye Freu (n) de.
