Dr Jürgen Reinert took a personal anniversary, his 50th birthday, as an opportunity to support steps for children with donations instead of gifts. The Managing Board of SMA Solar Technology AG had invited 70 guests, 16 of whom were from Namibia and five of whom had travelled all the way from there.

“I was born and raised in Namibia and would like to give something back to the country and its people. After good internet research and discussions with personal contacts in Namibia, I decided on steps for children for my appeal for donations,“ says Dr Jürgen Reinert.

Thanks to the donating guests, €2,000 was raised - and steps can achieve an incredible amount with this, e.g. financing the annual salaries of 1.5 preschool teachers at the project location in Otavi, which Dr Reinert is particularly pleased about. His connection to Africa is not only personal, but also professional: SMA Solar Technology AG is a specialist in photovoltaic systems and is thus driving forward the decentralised, digital and renewable energy supply of tomorrow.
