An enjoyable fundraising campaign

BBS 2015 1This school year, the students in the entry-level home economics class at BBS II in Delmenhorst have been looking into the question of what food waste in Germany has to do with hunger in Africa. Through contact with an au pair girl from Cameroon, they learnt, among other things, that very few children in Cameroon go to school because their parents cannot afford the school fees. The personal conversation affected them deeply: “We believe that everyone should have the freedom to eat enough, go to school and make their own decisions about their lives.” At an external event, the students then met our ambassadors Sabine and Dr Hans-Christian Schröder, who told them about our projects in Okakarara. “We found it all very exciting [...]. It's great that so much good can be achieved for so many people in such a short time. That's how we came up with the idea of supporting this project.” The students themselves run the Küchenzauber student company. They decided to cook African dishes and offer them as a buffet in the staff room in return for a donation. But it didn't stop there. In addition to this campaign, the pupils decided to donate money from their own income from their kitchen company, which we are very pleased about.

“With our donation, we want to support the project ‘Vegetable cultivation in Okakarara’, because people cannot survive without food and the vegetable field also supports the soup kitchen and generates money that benefits everyone.” The pupils also want to continue to support steps for children beyond this campaign. The next fundraising campaigns are already being planned and prepared in order to continue supporting people in need in Africa in the future. We are particularly pleased about the pupils' interest in supporting the steps projects in the long term.

On behalf of the employees and children in Namibia, the steps team would like to thank the pupils for their energetic commitment, with which they are taking on social responsibility on a global scale. We are already looking forward to the next campaign, which will once again demand their full commitment.
