Entry of the marathon chickens
In Okahandja, the almost 100 square metre chicken coop was completed in the last few days before the coronavirus pandemic. An incubator is used to hatch eggs, some of the chicks are then sold, some are reared as laying hens or sold as larger chickens. As soon as the border to South Africa is open again, a larger incubator and a solar system will be added to operate the facility.
This is our latest income-generating measure and the proceeds will be used for the afternoon classes that will soon be added to Meme Kauna's project.

But before you buy chickens, you need to find out about the different breeds. Here we would like to introduce the tried and tested breed in Namibia: The Ovambochicken!
They originally come from the north of Namibia, Ovamboland, and typically have red and black plumage. These chickens are characterised by hunting and eating mice and young rats. Their robustness and agility have earned them the nickname „marathon chickens“.
