Less sugar, more health

steps employees receive further training in healthy eating

Two colleagues from the steps Okakarara team took part in a Nutrition for Health workshop in December 2024 as part of the nutrition initiative. Afterwards, they processed what they had learnt and passed on key information and insights to their colleagues - in an internal mini-workshop in the large hall in Okakarara.

„The workshop not only showed us how important it is to pay attention to our diet, but also how simple changes in everyday life can have long-term positive effects.“

Eveline Ketjivandje,
Office Manager Okakarara

Which foods are healthy?

Eveline from the office and other colleagues report: At home and at work, attitudes towards food changed a little immediately afterwards. „Sugar consumption in particular has taken centre stage in our everyday lives.“ Here are some of the key insights that have helped Eveline make changes to her health through healthy eating:

  • Less sugar, more energyI now use a lot less sugar at home and watch what my daughter and I consume. Especially with drinks like lemonade and juice, I dilute them with water to reduce my sugar intake.
  • Health for the next generationMy one-year-old daughter is not given any sugar, as I am convinced that this is beneficial for her development and health in the long term.
  • Small changes, big results: By reducing sugar and fat, I have already started to get rid of my belly. It's the small but sustainable changes that make the biggest differences.
  • A wake-up call for the teamThe workshop was not only a realisation for me, but also for my colleagues. Everyone has started to eat more consciously and healthily - a real team shift towards better nutrition and well-being.

Support our comprehensive nutrition initiative at steps in Namibia with a donation. This will give more colleagues the opportunity to receive further training in healthy nutrition and to incorporate the findings into everyday life at home, but also at steps with the children.
