Step into self-employment after more than 10 years

Step into self-employment after more than 10 years

Our carpentry workshop in Gobabis has been operating as an income-generating step for over 10 years. Toys, kitchens and school furniture for our steps facilities, solar ovens, benches, chairs and tables were made there. A year ago, we encouraged our carpenters to take the plunge into self-employment, offered them training in marketing and sales and will continue to support them as best we can.

The furniture they produce continues to impress, which is why we will be happy to order tables, chairs and benches or beds for our facilities from them. But then under these new circumstances. We are donating the machines and equipment that have been used so far and are in good condition to the carpenters to enable them to make a start in the future.

Our time together has now come to an end in 2024, but our paths will continue to cross - for example, there will soon be renovation work in Gobabis, where new pieces of furniture will be needed again. For example, the remodelling of the former computer school and an additional room. Above all, small accommodation for future volunteers is to be built here, which will free up more rooms in the guest house and allow them to be rented out, as the volunteers will now have their own accommodation and no longer stay in the guest house as before.

Becoming self-employed is a big change for the joinery team. For us, it is the first time that we have transferred a previously subsidised project into self-employment.

We wish our carpenters every success on their path to self-employment!
