The children in Namibia have been back from their holidays for a week now and the second term has begun. I'm sure many kids in Okakarara are still thinking back to the eventful time in May, when our weltwärts volunteers Katharina and Sophia put together a varied holiday programme:

„After the big tests, it was finally time for the big holidays for the children and therefore several weeks of holiday care for us. Every morning, the neighbourhood kids were at our front door two hours early because they could hardly wait to storm the steps premises. For us, this meant thinking up all sorts of games and making craft templates that would be fun for both 4-year-olds and 13-year-olds.
Of course, football, basketball, rag hockey and 3-step were played day in, day out, faces were painted and hours were spent baking cakes and selling ice cream in the sandpit. In the ‚Artsshack‘, the children were also busy making clothes peg figures and paper plate faces from scraps of fabric, making papier-mâché and painting with watercolours.
Everyone had a lot of fun and it was difficult to send the children home every day without them complaining that they wanted to keep playing.“
