The children in Namibia have been back from their holidays for a week now and the second term has begun. I'm sure many kids in Okakarara are still thinking back to the eventful time in May, when our weltwärts volunteers Katharina and Sophia put together a varied holiday programme:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

“After the big tests, the children finally had their summer holidays, which meant several weeks of holiday childcare for us. Every morning, the neighborhood kids were already at our front door two hours early because they could hardly wait to storm the steps site. For us, that meant coming up with all kinds of games and making craft templates that would be fun for both 4-year-olds and 13-year-olds.
Of course, every day we also played football, basketball, rag hockey and 3-Step, painted faces, and spent hours baking cakes in the sandbox and selling ice cream. In the ‘Artsshack’, the children also diligently made clothespin figures and paper-plate faces from fabric scraps, made papier-mâché and painted with watercolors.
Everyone had a wonderful time, and every day it was difficult to send the children home without them complaining that they would still like to keep playing.”
