As part of political education for officers, a full-day seminar on Africa was held in Garlstedt in March 2017. Various aspects of the current situation were presented by political scientists and embassy staff. A rather bleak picture of Africa was painted here — not entirely surprisingly. By contrast, the positive image presented by steps-Ambassador Hans-Christian Schröder was able to highlight support and assistance for Namibia. The participants were impressed by the idea of self-help and how it is implemented at the various locations. Above all, the support for children in education and the way the projects were implemented with the help of the local population and while preserving their dignity convinced the officers. A further presentation has been requested for future seminars.
