Elmar the Elephant

With an idea for an art project, Karin Meyer-Wilmes approached the steps for children foundation: at the beginning of 2018, the woman from Wertheim devoted almost three months to the steps children in Okakarara and developed a baby elephant from wire and papier-mâché with them. Elmar, as the elephant was already named during its creation, has a big colourful open ear for every child.

Karin Meyer-Wilmes supervised the kindergarten and pre-school children in the morning with well-planned art lessons, gave art workshops for the older children in the afternoon and, with commitment and communicative skill, managed to inspire the steps children for the Elmar project. In many work steps, many diligent hands shaped Elmar's body.

The experience of working together will leave a lasting memory on both sides: both the steps children in Okakarara and the artist, who has now returned to her home country, enjoyed the time of creative work. Elmar now stands wind- and weatherproof, patiently with bright colourful ears, on the sandy grounds and looks forward to every new message and encounter with people who want to develop and implement their ideas with the children.

Thank you very much, Ms Meyer-Wilmes, for this wonderfully creative project!
