The Jones family in Okakarara

Since 2014, Idwal Jones has translated German texts for steps for children into English and has learned a great deal about the activities of steps. Last year, he, his wife Gabriele and his daughter Lisa decided to go on holiday in Namibia and work for a few days in a steps project.

In July 2019, they spent five days in Okakarara. They stayed in the guesthouse, attended lessons in the preschool and kindergarten in the mornings, served lunch to the children and helped with homework supervision for older pupils in the afternoons.

“Singing, learning and playing with the children in the mornings was fun, but we were able to contribute most in the afternoons, when we could also provide individual support to the students, either one-on-one or in small groups, especially in English and mathematics. In the project, all the staff and volunteers, and especially the children, gave us a warm welcome, and we had a wonderful and educational time there. During this relatively short time, through our experiences as well as conversations with the staff and volunteers, we were already able to gain deep insight into life there, the social conditions and circumstances of life. For the three of us, it was the start of a very beautiful round trip in Namibia.”

Dear Jones family, we would like to thank you warmly for your support and are already looking forward to welcoming you back to steps in Namibia!
