The Jones family in Okakarara

Since 2014, Idwal Jones has translated German texts for steps for children into English and has learned a great deal about the activities of steps. Last year, he, his wife Gabriele and his daughter Lisa decided to go on holiday in Namibia and work for a few days in a steps project.

In July 2019, they spent five days in Okakarara. They stayed in the guesthouse, attended lessons in the preschool and kindergarten in the mornings, served lunch to the children and helped with homework supervision for older pupils in the afternoons.

„Singing, learning and playing with the children in the mornings was fun, but we were able to contribute most in the afternoons, where we could also help the pupils individually or in small groups, especially in English and mathematics. In the project, we were warmly welcomed by all the staff and volunteers, but especially by the children, and had a wonderful and enriching time there. In this relatively short time, through the experience as well as in conversations with the staff and volunteers, we were already able to gain a deep insight into life there, the social conditions and living circumstances. For the three of us, it was the start of a very lovely tour of Namibia.“

Dear Jones family, we would like to thank you warmly for your support and are already looking forward to welcoming you back to steps in Namibia!
