German Schlager star Peter Wackel is supporting the construction of a school to provide education for the poorest children and young people in Namibia. The school building will be inaugurated on 8 April 2022. The school building was constructed for the Ileni Tulikwafeni community project in the Namibian town of Okahandja, 65 km north of the capital Windhoek. Peter Wackel made his donation to the Reiner Meutsch Stiftung FLY & HELP, which builds schools in countries of the Global South with the help of donors. It has been working in a long-standing partnership with the foundation steps for children and has already financed the construction of classrooms at other steps for children locations.
At the official inauguration of the school building on 8.4.2022, Peter Wackel will be accompanied by friends and fans. They have not only donated many Scout backpacks, but have also contributed to financing the adjacent playground and supported numerous guardian angel children.
The school offers great added value for the community: in the mornings, two preschool classes learn in the classrooms; in the afternoon, children from the Schutzengel programme of the steps for children foundation come for homework support and supplementary lessons. In the evenings, the school rooms are used for further training for adults from the surrounding community.
Since 2019, steps for children has cooperated with the Ileni Tulikwafeni project in Okahandja, Namibia, founded by Kaunapawa Lourencia Philemon . steps for children built a solar-powered hatchery with a chicken coop here, thereby generating income for the project's social initiatives. The steps-owned carpentry workshop in Gobabis produced the school furniture for the “Peter-Wackel School” and thus ensures appropriate learning conditions.

Reiner Meutsch Stiftung FLY & HELP
The Reiner Meutsch Stiftung FLY & HELP is a non-profit foundation based in Kroppach whose main objective is to promote the education and upbringing of children and young people in developing countries. It was founded by Reiner Meutsch in summer 2009. To date, more than 550 school construction projects have already been initiated. The new buildings enable many thousands of children in Africa, Asia and Latin America to attend school and lay the foundation for a self-determined future.

The foundation steps for children, founded in Hamburg by Dr. Michael Hoppe, invests in the education and training of children and young adults in Namibia and Zimbabwe and provides opportunities for the future and the skills needed to break the cycle of poverty through their own efforts. steps creates jobs and generates income. The jobs in the micro-enterprises established by steps help the local population generate income and thus offer independence and prospects for staying. The surpluses generated are intended to cover part of the costs of the social projects in the future. steps' goal is to become independent of donations in the long term!
