A successful event

On 29/11, we held our general meeting of the support association steps for children e.V. and our first hybrid event. We had decided to open the event to anyone interested in steps for children and to friends of steps for children who are not members of the support association or who were not able to attend the event in person. It was an evening with many interesting presentations about steps and Namibia, which were listened to by over 70 guests — both on site in Hamburg and online via Zoom.

A successful event — because the program began with a talk about the current situation at steps, presented by the foundation's founder, Dr. Michael Hoppe.

Following this, we invited Namibia-based author Erika von Wietersheim. She read from her book “Good Morning, Namibia!” and took us to Namibia, bringing us closer to the country’s history and her own experiences there.
After the reading, the audience had many questions, which took up a great deal of time, meaning that we were no longer able to ask Erika the questions we had prepared. However, Erika von Wietersheim’s answers are so valuable that we do not want to withhold them from you:

Finally, the volunteers from Gobabis, Paula Battermann and Leni Wohlgemut, shared a short report about their tasks and the events of the past few days in the project with us. At the beginning of their time as volunteers, Paula and Leni were initially at steps in Okakarara and then decided to move to steps in Gobabis. They are happy with this decision – it also gives them the opportunity to get to know several steps for children facilities on site in greater depth.

While Erika von Wietersheim and Paula and Leni joined via Zoom from Namibia, the fourth guest came onto the stage live from the audience. He gave a vivid account of his trip in the spring, during which he also got to know the steps for children projects in person. 

It was an evening with many interesting contributions about steps and Namibia, listened to by over 70 guests – both on site in Hamburg and connected online via Zoom.
