A successful event

A successful event

On 29/11, we held our general meeting of the support association steps for children e.V. and our first hybrid event. We had decided to open the event to anyone interested in steps for children and to friends of steps for children who are not members of the support association or who were not able to attend the event in person. It was an evening with many interesting presentations about steps and Namibia, which were listened to by over 70 guests — both on site in Hamburg and online via Zoom.

A successful event — because the program began with a talk about the current situation at steps, presented by the foundation's founder, Dr. Michael Hoppe.

Afterwards, we invited the Namibia-based author Erika von Wietersheim. She read from her book “Guten Morgen, Namibia!” and took us to Namibia, giving us a closer look at the country’s history and her own experiences there.
After the reading, many questions came from the audience and took up a lot of time, so we were no longer able to ask Erika the questions we had prepared. However, Erika von Wietersheim’s answers are so valuable that we would like to share them with you:

Finally, the volunteers from Gobabis, Paula Battermann and Leni Wohlgemut, shared a short report with us about their tasks and the events of the last few days from the project. At the beginning of their time as volunteers, Paula and Leni first stayed with steps in Okakarara and then decided to move to steps in Gobabis. They are happy about this decision — it also gives them the opportunity to get to know several steps for children facilities on site more intensively.

We would like to sincerely thank all the speakers involved as well as our volunteers for their commitment.

Leni

While Erika von Wietersheim and Paula and Leni were connected from Namibia via Zoom, the fourth guest stepped onto the stage live from the audience. He gave an vivid account of his trip in the spring, during which he also got to know the projects of steps for children in person.
