With a Strong Foundation to Academic Success
Ndapewa's Story: How reliable support from preschool through graduation opens doors.
Success has many milestones. Ndapewa joined our very first preschool class in Okakarara as a little girl. Over the years, she made the most of every opportunity, worked hard toward her goals, and today proudly holds her university degree in her hands. Her journey shows how crucial continuous support is for children from poor backgrounds.
Become part of the Guardian Angel Program and enable young people like Ndapewa to break the cycle of poverty through education on their own.
My path to a self-determined future
In this video, Ndapewa looks back on her beginnings at steps for children back.
She talks about the most important milestones in her school career and how continuous support gave her the foundation for an independent life.
Guardian angel programme
Good, sustainable education costs money. With the help of our Guardian Angels, we support children and young people in Namibia during their school career and beyond. Guardian Angels make their contribution in the form of a monthly or annual donation based on the respective needs of the pupils or students. This programme is very successful: the first Schutzengel children have already completed their bachelor's degree - without steps for children, this would never have been possible.
An insight into the lasting impact of the Guardian Angel Program
In this blog article, we take you on a little journey through time: We look back to the day when our foundation founder Michael Hoppe, together with Sonja Schneider-Waterberg (now our National Coordinator), visited the three Guardian Angel children Johanna, Clenda, and Ndapewa in their first shared apartment in Windhoek. Back then, they were at the very beginning of their education and helped each other through the first major hurdles as close friends.
Read the archive report now and experience how important this social cohesion in our projects was as the foundation for their degrees today.
Ndapewa looks back
The second part of Ndapewa’s personal success story.
Here, Ndapewa talks more about her background. She grew up in a family with eight children. On her journey, she was supported by steps and accompanied over many years. By now, she has already completed her degree and, like Clenda, works in the steps after-school care program.
