For her 60th birthday, Susanne-Kathrein Bern had a special request: „My birthday wish is donations for underprivileged children in Namibia! I have so much and now want to give something back.“ Her 110 guests were happy to fulfil this wish: the donation box decorated with pictures filled up quickly, and by the end of the party the Bern couple had raised a four-figure sum. Half of this goes to steps for children and the other half to a private orphanage in Windhoek, Katutura.

Hans and Susanne-Kathrein Bern have a personal connection to both projects: they have already visited the orphanage in Windhoek, where their daughter did a social internship after her A-levels, several times; their daughter has also been helping out voluntarily in the Hamburg steps office for three years. The birthday guests liked the direct proximity to the projects and asked interested questions.
