steps at Alafia – A great weekend with heat and hail

[:en]

Last weekend, the Alafia Festival took place in Altona once again, and, as usual, we at steps for children took part. We provided interested visitors with information about the foundation's work in Namibia and also sold products from our income-generating step sewing workshop in Okakarara, which were very well received.

Alafia 2016

After Saturday initially started very quietly, more and more visitors came to our stand from the afternoon onwards despite the midsummer temperatures.

Alafia 2016We were able to delight the children with balloons and colourful water bottles, and the adults were able to buy our various sewing products and learn more about the work of steps from our volunteers. In this way, we met many lovely people, with whom interesting conversations arose.

Also on Sunday, many visitors made their way to the festival and our stand in the sunshine. Unfortunately, the announced storm did not take long to arrive, and in the afternoon the skies opened and sent torrents of rain, lightning and hail down on us. Thanks to the quick assistance of our volunteers, we were able to save most of it, although one or two people got “a little” wet. As a result, Sunday ended very suddenly and unfortunately somewhat early.

Nevertheless, the stand was once again a great success, and the proceeds from sales of the sewing products, along with donations, help ensure that our projects in Africa continue to receive financial support.

Alafia 2016That is why we would like once again to thank all the volunteers from the bottom of our hearts, who presented steps so professionally to the outside world, and who did such great work with the set-up and dismantling and under the extreme weather conditions. None of this would have been possible without you!

A huge thank-you from the entire steps team!

After Saturday initially started very slowly, more and more visitors came from the afternoon despite the high summer temperatures in our state.

Alafia 2016The children we were able to inspire with balloons and colorful water bottle and the adults were able to buy our various sewn products and learn by our volunteers more about the work of steps. So we met many nice people with whom interesting discussions resulted.

Without you all, this would not have been possible!

A huge thank-you from the entire steps team!
