Off to Zimbabwe
After four years, the Board of Directors has now been able to travel to Zimbabwe again and visit the projects that have been created through the cooperation with Plan International and Stiftung Hilfe mit Plan. Due to the tight time frame, they mainly looked at the income-generating measures. Michael Hoppe and Andreas Roß were fascinated by the progress and success of the project to date:
„We were impressed by the tireless efforts of the local people in Zimbabwe. They have successfully adapted the fish ponds and even created more ponds to support themselves after the programme was completed. This form of income-generating activity provides a long-term source of income for the participating community and helps to alleviate abject poverty „

The people in the country are dependent on autonomous farming options, as inflation has risen enormously. We are therefore grateful that our efforts, such as the promotion of autonomous farming opportunities, can contribute directly to improving living conditions on the ground. Our aim is to provide people with the necessary resources and skills to become independent of external sources of aid and instead help them to help themselves. By empowering local communities and promoting sustainable practices, we help people to become self-sufficient and resilient to the effects of inflation in the long term. Our collective efforts are crucial to bringing about lasting positive change for the people of the country.
We continue to work in co-operation with Plan International and Stiftung Hilfe mit Plan in Zimbabwe at three locations in rural regions. Our focus is now on protecting girls and young women in order to prevent early marriage. This year, we will continue to support projects such as additional schools and fish ponds.
How we are currently helping in Zimbabwe:
- Training for teachers and head teachers on sexual education
- Youth education through sport, theatre and music: The sense of community and the commitment of young people for young people are strengthened, and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) are also discussed and educated.
- Training of local community leaders on child marriage legislation, child protection and access to education
- Involvement of political decision-makers and traditional authorities in the form of policy dialogues
- Leadership qualities of young women are promoted
- Provision of professional start-up kits for young people
