On 13 September, Dr Michael Hoppe was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon by the Second Mayor of the City of Hamburg, Katharina Fegebank, at a ceremony at Hamburg City Hall.
Ms. Fegebank was visibly impressed in her refreshing speech by the wealth of achievements that Michael Hoppe has accomplished over the past ten years by building up his foundation.
She particularly highlighted Michael Hoppe's wise and prudent actions, as well as the steadfast perseverance with which he confronted both Namibia's bureaucratic mills and the local cultural challenges involved in building the various projects.

In his thanks for this award Michael Hoppe placed particular emphasis on stating that all this had only been possible through the commitment of the people whom he had been able to inspire and win over to the cause over the years. Thus, it was hardly surprising that a circle of friends and helpers had also gathered that day to take part in this ceremonial occasion.
The joy of these ten successful years for steps for children was plainly visible on the faces of everyone present. Alongside their gratitude for so much good and heartening success, there was also hope that what had been achieved would be preserved and further expanded for the benefit of the children to whom the foundation is dedicated.
