Birgit Eckert has been a long-time volunteer at steps for children in Germany. With various activities at her nursery and practical help at stands, she supports us! Now the nursery teacher would like to get to know the projects on the ground and will fly to Namibia at the beginning of next year. The project trip is also being discussed in her nursery group:
„Since I know that I will be flying to Okakarara in March/April 2015 to help there in the pre-school, Namibia and the steps for children foundation are a current topic in my nursery group. I work in the nursery Sky Blue in Duvenstedt in an early-years group with children aged 3-6. The children there are doing pretty well and can hardly imagine that it isn’t like that for other children in the world.
On 7 November 2014, we held a lantern festival and a mother from my group, Bianca Preuß, had the wonderful idea of selling cakes that evening, baked by the parents. With the support of Kirstin Hebbel, she was very active and raised 350€ in just one hour! Some parents did not buy a cake, but donated.
A very special moment for me, though, was when my son Fabian came up to me. He told me how proud he was of me. I would be so committed to the children in the projects of steps for children and do a lot to make sure it reaches people’s minds. Then he put 50€ into the donation tin as a sign of his responsibility. Now I know even more that what I am doing is right and I will carry on just the same!“
