During the May holidays, Selma Mukuve, Desiree Shunyuni and Agnes Naibas, the three preschool teachers at the steps for children – Johanniter PrePrimary School, attended a training course at the “Amos Meerkat skool” Namibia. The Johanniter Heim Khoaeb Otavi provided its facilities for this purpose, and Ms Susan du Toit, project manager in Otavi, and her staff took care of the participants’ meals. The 13 course participants came from various rural areas, including Tsumkwe in Bushmanland and farms in the surrounding area. Some of these women and men teach up to 30 children under a tree without any funding and with very little school material. It is amazing and admirable what these people accomplish there! After a week of training, the course participants returned home well equipped with teaching materials for their children.
