„Go for Africa“ – Despite persistent rain, many kilometres for steps

[:en]

Hobeuken Primary School - hikingIn June, the primary school Hobeuken in Sprockhövel organised a charity run in aid of „steps for children“ in Okakarara. Inspired by her daughter Karoline Piepel, who is currently completing a worldwide-year at our first project site in Namibia, Gotelind Heidbrink-Piepel took care of the smooth running of the event and enthusiastically reported on the sporting participants: „Despite continuous rain, all 104 schoolchildren, accompanied by six teachers, an intern and several mothers, hiked an 8 km route between 8:00 and 11:30.“

Beforehand, the schoolchildren learned about the various projects of steps for children in class, before subsequently finding sponsors for their run - each kilometre completed by the children was supported by a donation. After their strenuous hike, the children proudly received their sponsorship money. The very considerable four-digit amount is to be used directly for the renovation of the sports and playground area in Okakarara.
