Half a year does the trick

Half a year does the trick

When Dominik arrived in Namibia, it was the school holidays. So there was enough time to settle in and get to know the project. „At the start of the regular school term, we had the opportunity to take a look into the other areas. Together with the project leaders, a plan was developed for how we could take turns accompanying different teachers in class,“ Dominik reports. In Gobabis, communication (morning classes for the younger children) presents every volunteer with a challenge because of the more than 6 different tribal languages the children bring with them to the project.

After this exploratory period, we were able to choose where we wanted to work in the mornings.“ Dominik chose the wood workshop and, together with Romario and other carpenters, finds creative solutions here, some of which were required due to a shortage of materials. His own projects in the carpentry workshop, such as building picture frames, but also making furniture, gave him great pleasure. For the afternoon, after a training period, Dominik was given his own tuition pupils from the group of guardian angel children and was thus able to study intensively with them for upcoming tests and exams.

His conclusion:
„I really had many opportunities to bring my strengths into the different areas of the project. I experienced and learned a lot, made friends and also believe, or hope, that I have left my mark on the project.“

Dear Dominik, we are sure that you have left your mark on the project and thank you most sincerely
for your active and committed participation in steps for children!
