The 4th grades really put their backs into it – in October they took part for the second time in steps for children and, with dedication and athletic power, ran up an amount in the four digits. With this amount, the 4th grades at the Schule an der Gartenstadt will take on sponsorships for Schutzengel children and will thus actively work for more educational opportunities and future prospects for children and young people in Namibia.

The students„ initiative and commitment began as early as 1st grade through Sabine Bohlen-Roß, who always enthusiastically told “her” classes about steps and its impact, reported on her training sessions with the teachers in Okakarara, and thus captivated them. For the children and parents, it quickly became clear that one can never start too young to get involved for other people as well. So they collected fruit and already cooked jam four years ago to sell it at the Christmas bazaar and become Schutzengel with the proceeds. In 2nd grade, too, they were able to generate proceeds at the bazaar with homemade cookies and take on another sponsorship for a further year.
After the run, Michael Hoppe personally introduced the students and also some teachers to our projects in Namibia once again. With some very practical questions, the children gladly thought along about why little homeschooling was possible in Namibia during the lockdown, in order to better understand the living conditions of the children there. Together with the former class teacher Sabine Bohlen-Roß and the current class teacher Marcus Fink, they got to the bottom of all the questions. A short film in between rounded off the small information talk.
On behalf of all the Schutzengel children from Okakarara, we would like to thank you very, very much for your commitment and admire your dedication.
