On 8 July, the new school building built with financial support from the steps for children foundation and other supporters was officially handed over by the authorities at our cooperation partner „Heart for the Children“. The furniture is still missing, but as soon as tables and chairs have been purchased, the project will be able to accommodate and support twice as many children. Heart for the Children celebrated the opening of the new classrooms with the children and parents from the neighbourhood, with supporters, representatives of the authorities and social institutions, as well as our National Coordinator. The special day was rounded off with snacks and drinks for everyone.
The celebrations were a great success. The speakers each stressed, in unison, that private initiatives from Namibia in combination with foreign foundations are unfortunately still necessary, as the state organisations have not yet built up the necessary capacity for early childhood and pre-school education. All guests, as well as the parents present, are overjoyed about the activities of steps for children in Rehoboth. It is now the task of „Heart for the Children“ to make use of the increased capacity and to accompany more children on their way to primary school and throughout their schooling. steps will continue to support the project and will also take particular care of the further training of the teachers.
