Due to the imposed entry ban because of the coronavirus pandemic in Namibia, tourists are staying away. The last tourists stranded in Namibia are looking for their way back home, including our volunteers.
Namibia is very dependent on tourism. Therefore, as in other countries, the absence of tourists has catastrophic consequences. Cancellations are piling up and this means a major loss for tour operators and guest farms. Staff have to be laid off as a result and no longer have any income as of now.
„There are still only two confirmed coronavirus cases in Namibia at the moment. But caution is important, because it is now known that the situation can change at lightning speed. The majority of Chinese people living in Namibia were initially not allowed to enter Namibia after their Christmas holiday at the beginning of the year. If they did enter, they were placed in quarantine, and some of them are still there. It has been raining again since yesterday. A small comfort in a difficult time.“ reports a friend from Namibia.
