Due to the imposed entry ban because of the coronavirus pandemic in Namibia, tourists are staying away. The last tourists stranded in Namibia are looking for their way back home, including our volunteers.

Namibia is very dependent on tourism. Therefore, as in other countries, the absence of tourists has catastrophic consequences. Cancellations are piling up and this means a major loss for tour operators and guest farms. Staff have to be laid off as a result and no longer have any income as of now.

“There are still only two confirmed coronavirus cases in Namibia at the moment. But caution is important, because by now we know that the situation can change in the blink of an eye. The majority of Chinese people living in Namibia were initially not allowed to re-enter Namibia after their Christmas holiday at the beginning of the year. If they did enter, they were quarantined; some of them are still there. It has been raining again since yesterday. A small consolation in a difficult time.” reports a friend from Namibia.
