New classrooms in Namibia
The Kid-Care Kollege in Katutura offers new educational spaces for children from the poorest backgrounds in Windhoek, Namibia.
In the Namibian capital Windhoek, in the Goreangab district, which is also located in Katutura, we have been supporting since the beginning of the year we have been supporting since the beginning of the year with the kind support of the Georg Kraus Foundation the Kid-Care Kollege, which was founded by Johannes Mateus in 2019. In doing so, he has managed to bring many children in from the unsafe streets of this very poor neighbourhood and, together with an eight-member team of educators and teachers, offers them the greatest possible opportunities for development and education.
The Katutura district, whose name translates as “place where we do not want to live”, is one of the poorest areas in Namibia and in Windhoek. Here, we create a protected space for children to open up future prospects for them, while also providing immediate help through care and nutrition.
While 68 children still attended the social facility in 2019, there are already 155 today, receiving support and meals in the nursery, kindergarten, preschool and a first-grade class. The founder is a teacher himself and invested his savings in the facility. We would like to support his commitment and, with it, the children’s educational journey at his facility by constructing two urgently needed classrooms. This will enable the first-grade class from the previous year to continue being looked after at this facility as a second-grade class.
The building for the new classrooms is almost complete. We are still short of 900 € to fully fund the project – help now by making a partial donation for the new classrooms at the Kid-Care Kollege in Katutura.
