Safe sleeping place for girls

We are building boarding houses in Zimbabwe, creating safe places to sleep for girls

Safe place to sleep for girls: We want girls to have a safe place to sleep and are therefore building, together with Plan International and the Stiftung Hilfe mit Plan, in Zimbabwe Girls' boarding houses. We explain here how they are equipped and what we aim to achieve with them. Would you also like to get involved and help us make safe places to sleep for girls in Zimbabwe possible? Then give the gift of a donation.

Safe place to sleep for girls – why it matters:

Many girls have to travel very long distances to get to school – they have to walk to villages far away and then sleep there, instead of walking straight back home, near the school – somewhere. Many of the girls then spend the night unprotected outdoors or in shelters, some in simple but unsupervised accommodation – without anyone keeping an eye on them to make sure nothing happens to them.

This is then called „bush boarding“

To counter the practice of „bush boarding“, we are building girls' boarding houses at secondary schools. One boarding house can accommodate 45 girls. Each building therefore has seven dormitories with at least six beds, equipped with mattresses, pillows and bed linen.

The girls' boarding houses will not only provide beds, but also tables, chairs and electric light for homework and reading.

In addition, each boarding house will have a reading room with tables, chairs and electric light. The kitchens of the boarding houses will be built outside the main buildings.
