The former volunteer, Barbara Atorf, dedicated her school’s project day in December to the educational work of steps for children in Namibia. With her Year 7 class at the grammar school at Stormarnschule Ahrensburg, she also looked at the school routes of children in Namibia, among other things. How do children get to school there? How long do they have to walk? What and whom do they encounter on the way? Why do the children take the journey to school every day?
These questions and other topics were the focus of the project day. Documentaries from Africa and an original interview from Namibia were analysed as examples, and the results were presented on posters. The class was very impressed by the long, arduous and, in some cases, dangerous journeys children in Africa have to make just to go to school.
In addition, Barbara Atorf told the pupils about the work of steps for children at the 6 locations, in particular about Rehoboth and the educational initiatives of the projects „Heart for the Children“ and „Otto Gamseb“ (new buildings for the children from the impoverished district).

Barbara Atorf concluded in retrospect: „And hopefully they will remember that children on the other side of the globe gladly accept all of this, simply in order to go to school.“
