4 November 2022

This will be an informative evening!

Dear steps friends,

As more and more questions reach us from amongst our supporters about what things currently look like in Namibia in light of the many crises, we have decided to open the members’ event of the support association of steps for children e.V. to all interested parties.

You can look forward to a current situational report as well as a reading by Erika von Wietersheim, joining live from Namibia, who will read from her book „Good Morning, Namibia!“ and with whom we will then discuss the current situation in Namibia.

In-person attendance:

On Tuesday, the 29 November, admission 6.00 pm,
Mittelweg 11-12, 20148 Hamburg.
Registration via info@stepsforchildren.de

NEW: HYBRID! In addition, we are also offering participation via Zoom for all interested parties or supporters who are unable to attend this event in person or who have less time:

Important notice for our members of the support association:
As votes cannot, for legal reasons, be validly cast online for the association, we ask members to attend in person in large numbers, so that we can vote on the amendments to the articles of association and the discharge of the board.

We look forward to an inspiring evening with a wide range of input and plenty of exchange.

In September 2022, I was last on a project trip and saw how the current crises are affecting Namibia. I will describe successes and setbacks as well as outline current challenges and hopes.

Where is the journey heading? Inputs from various speakers, some joining live from Namibia, will provide us with information and perspectives and thus offer plenty of scope for exchange and inspiration.

Erika von Wietersheim, formerly a farmer, is a journalist and author of numerous books as well as a member of the Executive Council of the Council of Churches in Namibia. She is a founding member of Trust steps for children in Namibia and its first Chairperson. As the founder of Namibian educational initiatives, committed to overcoming colonialism, apartheid and poverty, and connected with the then independence movement, the author knows her country's history from a wide variety of perspectives. After a reading from her book „Good Morning, Namibia!“ she will join us in the discussion.

Planned schedule:

6.00 pm socialising and refreshments at the buffet

6.25 pm general meeting

6.40 pm On the current situation in Namibia, input by Dr Michael Hoppe, Chair of the Board, including a subsequent discussion

7.00 pm „Good Morning, Namibia!“, reading by the author Erika von Wietersheim including a subsequent discussion

7.35 pm further contributions from Namibia are being sought

7.45 pm end of the evening at the buffet

8.00 pm end

So that we can plan refreshments and snacks, we kindly ask those attending in person to register by email: info@stepsforchildren.de, phone: 040-389 027 88 or by post: Stiftung steps for children, Büro Hamburg, Bramfelder Straße 77, 22305 Hamburg.

If members of the support association have any further additions to the agenda, please submit them by 22/11/2022.

Note: The in-person event will be captured in photographs. By registering for the event, participants agree that the images may be used for communication purposes (e.g. website, newsletter steps for children).
