What does Regina from Gobabis do?
The steps homes child Regina remains determined. She feels at home with her steps homes family in Gobabis. In the meantime, she has completed her matric, which is comparable to the Abitur in Germany, and she is currently upgrading it through courses at NamCol (Namibian College, a state-run further education institution) in order to have the opportunity to pursue higher education, and perhaps she will even become a teacher.
When asked why she would like to become a teacher, Regina answers:
„It´s the interest of my teachers. They are used to enjoy their career. And they also teach kids to prepare them for their future. I would like to do that for the younger ones to have a future like mine.“
When she is not studying herself, she helps others and takes on the job that volunteers from Germany would normally do. Due to the crisis, she was given the opportunity to take over the work of the volunteers in the afternoon as a tutor. Together with Santiago and Sophia, she looks after younger steps homes and Schutzengel children in the new Multifunctional House and helps organise the afternoon lessons.
Regina has already had many experiences in her life and had a child last year. Since 2017, she has been living with her siblings in a steps homes family in Gobabis.
Dear Regina, whatever further educational path you choose, we are glad that you are with us and that you are not letting anyone deter you from your plans.
